SOURCE: My brake, slip and VDC indicators stay on. Check brake fluid level, add fluid from sealed container if needed. Just took it back the next day and they fixed it. Not really sure what the problem was. They said the steering angle detector (or something like that) had to be re-adjusted and the computer had to be reset.

I took it to Nissan to have the code scanned (free), and he told me that a pressure sensor was bad and that the engine wiring harness was bad related to the passenger wheel speed sensor. Sometimes it will allow me to still drive and sometimes it will die and throw up the battery light. I am always able to restart my car after it dies. The lights do not always come on. If I hit the rear diff switch the REAR DIFF light goes out and then ABS and SLIP come on. I can hear the 4wd engage both high and low when I turn it on with my door open. VDC is Vehicle Dynamic Control. It applies the brake to a spinning tire in order to arrest a slide on a slick surface, such as wet concrete or ice. It's not supposed to be used off-road. The system that the newer Xterras have that is useful off-road is ABLS, which stands for Active Brake Limited Slip.Most generally when all of these lights are on, it is an ABS sensor and 4-wheel will not engage. Even though you may look at it and it looks ok it's really not. To know for sure gently pull on the wires that come off the frame to the wheel up by the plug. It will stretch or break in half if it's bad.

I've purchased a 2005 xterra, GREAT vehicle. Since I've had it [purchased 12/2005] the 'VDC oFF' & 'SLIP' indicator lights have came ON and stayed ON until Reset by procedure in manual. Took it to the dealer, they 'reset' the code/module. Not even a week later, the lights are back on. It's a bit annoying - not even 2000 miles on it yet.

Now both the VDC OFF and SLIP lights are back on. Well the first thing you will need to do is have the truck scanned for codes. Most likely when you disconnected the battery you cleared the G-Sensor and Steering Angle sensor calibrations. So they will both need to be reset.

After replacing the wheel speed sensor 4x4 will engage when I start the x but the VDC OFF light stays on and the ABS and SLIP lights both turn off ...
